Default check my spec please

After my Mac got nicked, Ive decided that im going to buy a PC with the insurance monies.

Ive tried to build together the best PC possible with the funds available, for a machine that will meet my home video editing needs

Currently its coming in at a around £850 mark.
and i was hoping to only spend around £650,
Could some of you gurus could look at my spec and tell me if theres anything i can afford to loose or anything that i should change around.

The main thing im sure about is the graphics card, im not a huge gamer but it comes with a built on-chip video processor, which is surposed to help with DVD playback and such. Is it worth the extra cash?

1 easy saving is your monitor. If you have room get a crt 17" for about 50 quid, and it will be better quality! saves £120

I got 2 x 21" for 190 quid!

Creative Sound Blaster® Audigy 2 ZS 7.1 - don't think you need this, maybe something you can save up for in the future if you want to upgrade!
Doesn't the motherboard you quote have on board surround sound??? saves 65

I'd deffo recommend a bigger hdd, they are cheap enough, 200 gig for about 90 quid. - adds £50

XFX GeForce MX4000 64MB DDR TV-Out (PCI) for 32.84 saves £80

total saving £215!

80 gigs storage and single hard-disk is definitely not for viditing... add at least another 80 gig drive, you'll be glad you did, later, also check out the thread about "why should we have more than 1 hd".
GeForce4 MX4000 rocks if eveything you do is 2D (no games, that is), I've been using this card for quite a while now and what can I say, maybe a new card would speed up rendering a little bit but I can't afford that.
Good luck!

A graphics card would not speed up rendering unless the software specifically uses the GPU to render. This will most probably not be the case.

Thanks Marc, glad I found an answer to this issue (I somewhat "suspected" graphic cards have nothing to do with the case, but now I'm certain).

I'd stick with the Asus motherboard though.

I'm with OnTheWay on CRT monitors; if you have the space, you get more quality for your £/$/whatever.

And there is NO SUCH THING as too much HD space. Spend as much as you can, and get 2 drives. Even if you think "I'll never use 250GB" or whatever, you WILL. Trust me.

I've got a 160GB and an 80GB and I'm having to ration my space. And I've not even done much video editing recently....

here here. In a couple of years time there might just be more poeple here than me with a passing interest to high def and at about 50Gb per hour of raw footage you'll def need that extra HDD space.
