NEED MORE RAM.... please advise

2 x 512mb ( 2 slots free ) dane-elec pc3200
BOARD - ASUS P4C800 - C delux (fsb 800mhz DUAL DDR 400)

My MB says it can take 4 gig, im looking to add another gig of ram to make 2gig

do I have to get another 2 x 512, or can i put in a 1 gig, so maybe later i can have another gig making 3.

can someone point me to a ebay add so i can order it.

i am on a budget, which is cheap as possiable but reliable and decent

I have money for expensive stuff but expendature is high right now so ineed to cut back, after just getting my matrox rt.x100

I money is at a premium right now for you then ask yourself what you hope to gain from the extra ram. Is it to reduce render times? That would be the most common reason. However, you have an RTx100 which will give you real time rendering and exporting. How much faster do you want it to go?

It's a dual DDR mobo, so you'll get the best performance with matching pairs of RAM.

Just sounds like 1 gig aint good, and i hate empty slots, but if i got better stuff to save up for, then i suppose there isn't much point,

BUT..

back to the main question, if i was to upgrade, whats the best, any links?

or am i best - sell my ram, and get a 2 gig paired?

1GB modules are expensive. If you have two spare slots, get a matching pair of 512MB modules.

Agreed. Get them, and get them now.

Warning: You probably won't notice a big improvement, but there will be an improvement.

but the link I gave in intial post said 59.99 for a gig stick
so its very similar priced.

would it make no difference performance wise, meaning 2x512 or a 1 gig
