This new computer has been a long time coming (a loooong time ).

I am keen to get started editing my video collection that is showing the signs of aging.

I have Ulead Video Studio 8. Is this alright to start off with or should I go straight to Adobe Premiere Pro (which I can get through work).

Are there any websites that I can access that give you step by step guides to editing (and archiving?) vhs video footage. Also could anyone recommend any books or magazines that might do the same.

I understand about partitioning. Is it alright to Partition my 250GB drive so that I can store Video, Music and Photos (I have a scanner too!), or should I leave the 250GB for the realm of video footage only.

putting all your media on the one drive/partition will be fine, yep. It's just about organisation. Whatever works best for you.

It's best to have all that stuff on a separate drive from your OS, but i'll assume you knew that.

your ATI card will be fine for capturing from vhs. I don't know how UVS8 is, i've never used it, but if you have it, you'd be as well using it. If you find that it has limitations that hinder what you want to do, then upgrade to something better.
