Default Good cpu for hd editing?

I just bought a sony sr11 and was going to put together a computer for video editing. I was curious which processor would be best for editing hd videos and watching them. Any suggestions? Thanks.

For what its worth Adobe have these system requirements for Premiere Pro CS4

2GHz or faster processor for DV; 3.4GHz for HDV; dual 2.8GHz for HD

That actually helps a lot because I plan on using Premiere Pro. Do either of these sound like a good fit. Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 or Intel Core i7 -965 Extreme Edition.

Given that thay are both amongst the fastest cpus money can buy - the latter probably is the fastest - thay will be just fine.

I just bought an HP quad core 2.5Ghz with 8GB of ram. IT handles HD video editing very well. I also splurged and got the HP 24" wide screen HD monitor.

not attacked HD but my new 8Gb quad core (4 x 2.83) can edit HDV in realt time i.e. no delay oin scrubbing and playback. And in my early tests I can export using the mpeg blu ray setting in better than real time. I was well impressed. Possibly a false test though as I'll not actually be using that preset.
