Default Pinnacle ShowCenter?

*blows dust and cobwebs of this forum*

Does anyone have a Pinnacle ShowCenter? Very tempted to get one just wondered how well it works (especially the wireless one). Can you stream DivX encoded videos to your TV with no problems?

What competing products are there out there that do the same thing?

I can't imagine the DivX video is a nice transfer over wireless. I'm guessing there will be stutters in the video for high bitrates - I sometimes get this on my system if I use the wireless rather than the wired connection from my workstation to my HTPC.

Also note that to get the wireless facility, you'll need the pinnacle proprietry wireless card. Pretty pants.

I'd say you're better off getting a decent MPEG4 player for the same price... just burn your divx movies to CDR.

As you can see, I'm not keen on em... maybe cos pcworld were pilling em high last time I was there. Look, I was just passing...

From Personal Computer World (October 2004)

1) Hauppauge MediaMVP - 99.99 - no wireless option
2) Linksys Wireless-B Adaptor - 138.65 - no video streaming
3) Netgear MP101 - 139 - just streams audio - no analogie out
4) Pinnacle Showcenter - 199 - no wireless as standard
5) Slim Devices Squeezebox - 199 - audio only
6) SMC EZ-Stream - 195 - poor wireless

So only the Pinnacle and SMC offers wireless video! Pinnacle got a highly reccomended award. If you do get the Pinnacle, you'll be reliant on firmware releases for future updates. Pas bien.

Marc,

Thanks muchly for that. I don't have to go wireless as I have plumbed in a LAN through to the living room (for Xbox LAN parties - how sad). It would just be preferable. Looks like it got a good rating then, but I will take a look at the other ones too though.

Thanks again

I am actually tempted to mod one of my xboxes so that it could play...um....stuff. You see - the problem with Xbox Lan parties is that it needs more than one copy of a game, while I am more than happy to fork out for a game once, I'm not overly excited about doing it a second time just for when I have a Lan party.

I woudn't chip my main xbox as this connects to Xbox Live and I don't want any problems there.

I've said too much
