Just spoke to pkbristol - he says vegas 8 does indeed max out all his cores when rendering.

Just to clarify, that's quad core Mark yeah? Don't suppose you know what processor, ram and that he's got too do you and if it copes with Vegas 8 seamlessly? Just want to make sure I get as much Vegas 8 capability as possible for my budget (around £700-£750)?
Cheers

He has a quad core intel - 2 gig ram and says it is cool.
I have 4 gig - this has the adcvantage of being abole to run vegas and lots of other apps with no chugging and means that ram preview ( useful) works well.
Make sure you spec at least 2 drives - one for system and apps - others for video. Expirience has shown me that the C drive should be the fastest you can get - it is well worth splashing on a 10000 rpm raptor from western dig.

By the way, who do you recommend for buying PCs? I'm currently comparing Dell and Mesh!

I get mine from our local small pc shop - costs 10% more but i think small shops rule - if you have any probs its hell sorting things sometimes when its all mail order.

Ram nad spped- depends how you use your PC. I have 4 monitors and like to do 8 things at once so I have lots of apps open - I noticed things on the d top got smoother when i went from 2 to 4 gig. From 4 to 8 the improvements in speed would be small for most pc users i suspect - but 8 gig would mean the 'prerender to ram' would work better.

0 Videos nominated Video Of the Month(s): 0 | | Hi guys, I said I'd add when I heard fom Sony - well, I posted the question about duo or quad core and this was Sony's response:
There are a lot of variables that can come into play with a question like this. In general, a quad-core processor would generally produce faster rendering speeds. I would suggest you download a trial version of the software and test on your set-ups to determine the best functionality. Our trials are fully-functional for 30 days and can be located at the link below: Sony Creative Software - Download: Vegas Pro
If you still have a follow-up question on this particular incident, please feel free to update it. If you have a completely different question, please create a new incident.
Pretty predictable I guess!!??
Matt
