Default Capture cards

Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong forum but I'd like some advice.

I found this video capture card on Maplins website
Maplin > Pinnacle Dazzle TV/Video Capture Card

And I was wondering if it's any good? I'm looking for a decent but cheap basic video capturing system so I can record games onto my PC. I've also seen some stuff going on eBay for a lil bit cheaper, but they're all from Hong Kong which bothers me some.

Anyway, any advice would be great thanks.

It will capture video via an s-video input.

Cannot see any audio input though - is capturing audio important to you?

There are plenty of USB-based video capture solutions that also capture from analogue video sources. Google 'USB vhs to DVD' or something similar - you will get plenty of ideas. These devices tend to capture in MPEG 1/2/4 format - great for viewing/distribution, but crap for editing with, if this is your intention.

Hmm it says it records sound too throught the analogue (which is good for retro games like my mega drive) but I would prefer to have sound too for more recent games (all through composite cables). And yes, there is going to be plenty of editing, but I'm using a Mac for that.

On closer inspection I think you're right.

I was expecting to see red and white phono connectors to accept audio - instead there appears to be a mini-jack socket - this could be where you connect the audio.

The FAQ's on the product page seem to support this. But considering this is a PCI card, this particular bit confuses me:

"Q) I want to capture VHS Video and edit it using Ulead Video Studio Software .... does the DAZZLE faciltate this and does it plug into USB2 terminal TKU - David Scouler
A) Yes the product does support that."

It clearly isn't a USB product.

For £15 it's worth the risk anyway, but check out the video capture specs - can the card capture at full PAL-compliant quality? ie 25fps @ 720x576 resolution.
