Default after effects, illustrator and premiere all open, no crashy?

this is my first post, never been here, but i think this is the beginning of a long productive rapport.

i've started to use after effects and premiere and was wondering, what would a safe situation be PC set up wise to have those two programs open and importing and exporting between the two and even operating one while the other is rendering. i know this is a lot to ask of a pc, but i don't care, i figure at least 4 gigs of decent brand ram and what, dual core 2 cpu?

i want to know does anyone else out there do the aformentioned at home, on their computer?

thanks in advance.

I have boith Premiere Pro (v2) and After Effect (v7) running at the same time (editting high def too) all the time at home, and usually have Photoshop and a web browser and media player all open at the same time as well.

I have 2Gb of Ram and run on on standard 3GhZ P4.

the only things I would add though, is that life is made a little easier having Ppro and AE open at the same time when they are part of Production Studio rather than installed as seperate apps.
