Totally agree. The main reason I self-assemble PCs if for the fun, not the price. A secondary reason is because I then know the quality of the components.
I spent a brief spell at a PC company (if you're a regular, you may be able to work out where). I'll tell you what, these guys really knew their stuff and were passionate about PCs. Every single unit was put together to the exact same high standard. To that end, I'd fully reccomend buying from the "second tier" of PC builders (behind the likes of Dell etc).

I would only ever recommend building a PC to someone that knows about PCs. If you're asking in a video editing forum about building PCs, chances are you're not the kind of person that should be building a PC.
I think a sticky is needed giving advice on where to go if you want to build with a top ten reasons of why (and why not!) to build your own. Anyone fancy it?
