6 GB DDR2 800 (PC2-6400)
2x SATA II 500GB 7,200RPM

Realtek ALC888S High Definition Channels: 7.1
PCI-Express Video Card GPU/VPU: ATI RADEON HD3650 512MB Dedicated/2815MB Shared Memory
Video Interface: VGA
HDMI (I would connect ithe computer to a 32" LCD TV)
DVI
2 firewire connections, 2 spdif connectors, Blu-Ray Player/DVD Burner.
I will use Premiere Pro CS3 and Encore CS3 with a Sony MiniDV camcorder.
Thank you.
The hardware spec looks good - I'm not sure if Premiere Pro CS3 can take full advantage of the 64bit OS (CS4 claims to be able to).

When you say you're connecting the PC to a 32" TV - is that as well as, or instead of a monitor?

Personally, I wouldn't use a TV as a main monitor, the resolution's nowhere near as good as a proper PC monitor. Even if you find a 1080p TV, the resolution still isn't as good as a standard 24" widescreen (usually 1920x1200 resolution) and a 30" PC monitor is usually 2560x1600.

Default Thank you Mike

Yes, I was thinking of using my Phillips 32" LCD HDTV as a main monitor, taking advantage of the HDMI connection. I will have to invest in a proper PC monitor.
Best,
Juan

Hi, I'm noobies in video editing world. I need some help.

currently my 2 NLE machine specs are

Dual Quad Core X5473 3.0GHz
12MB L2 cache
16GB 800MHz ECC Quad-channel DDR2 Fully buffered DIMM
512MB PCIe x16 ATI FireGL V7600
4 x 300GB 15k RPM SAS HDD
2 x 24" DELL 2408WFP LCD Monitor

I've tested out the performance for RAID 0 and 1.
Striping 4 HDD give me the highest performance.
I need some advices here. I"m still not sure how should i partition my striped HDD.
Currently I partition it into 3, where
C is purely OS and pagefile,
D for dvd writer,
E for Sony vegas pro 8.1 64bit and sony dvd architect pro 5.0 with its temp dir,
F purely for recorded and finalised video files.
Is this the correct way?

Hi! I've been mulling over a new PC for some time. I plan to use it for video/photo editing and the odd bit of gaming. Here's a list of components i've sorta settled on, but am wondering if i'm forgetting something....

The software i'll be using is Sony Vegas "Platinum", unsure which version, but my colleague is giving it to me b/c he never used nor will.

OK, so here's the specs:

Case: Cooler Master RC-690
PSU: Corsair TX 850WATT
CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-920
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 (for eventual OC)
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Mobo: ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 (24GB max RAM)
GPU: EVGA 01G-P3-1285-AR GeForce GTX 285 SC Edition Core Clock 675MHz Mem Clock 2538MHz
Boot HDD: WD VelociRaptor 300GB 10,000rpm 3.0Gb/s
Data HDD: WD Caviar Black 1TB 7,200 rpm 3.0Gb/s
Monitor: ASUS MK241H Black 24" (1920x1200) 2ms HDMI Widescreen LCD
OS: Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit

EDIT:
Optical Drives: 2x LITE-ON iHAP322-08 DVD RW

For now, i'm using Mini-Dv tape, but when that device fails, i'll probably get a HD palm-corder.

Any PC component suggestions (am i forgetting something)? Any software suggestions?

Thx!!!

you need an optical drive (cd/dvd drive). in this day and age i feel blu-ray is still too expensive but some will beg to differ. if you've got the money, go for it otherwise just get a dvd writer.if you plan to go HD later then get 2 500GB drive in raid, the Smasung drives are doing quite well lately but i'm a maxtor boy :P. if possible get raid 01 (0+1) this would give you protection as well but you have to work a drive hard to make it fail, i've only ever had 2 drive fail on me and thats cause i dropped them. :P
