Default PC guy moving to mac

Hi, new guy on the forum circuit. I've been shooting and editing video for 4 years now and have tried PC's with Pinnacle, Adobe and Matrox. I'm thinking of finally moving to Mac and Final cut studio. can anyone help me out by suggesting the best Mac for me. Budget is in the $2,000 to $5,000 range to include the monitor.

Get the fastest you can afford - for that money I should hope you can get a dual core dual xeon mac, that would be one great computer, get me one too please, but I will run windows on mine so i can use vegas - and to annoy all those maccophiles !

Thanks for the kind words. Problem is although I see the sense in buying the best I have no knowledge of MACs whatsoever. Can you suggest a specific model. I tend to specialise in corporate golf events and live music stuff and my work tends to run in the 30 to 50 minute range.

Big Macs (!) and PCs are actually alomost exactly the same under the skin now and can share expansion cards / peripherals.

What Mac seem to be doing at present is pricing thier full size machines very competitlvely, they always cost more than a similar pc but top spec macs look to be a great deal at present.

Two dual core Xeons - that is one fast computer. Spec it with 2 big drives and you will be in editing nirvana.

I am sure one of the cheaper macs will do the job fine but if you can afford it this is the baby.

I would buy one in a snip if I had the cash and run xp on it (shame it looks like a fanheater ).

there are huindreds of outlets who specialise in Video Edit gear. I'd recommend calling them as they will be able to quate you properly and suggest any extras. - You can then take that quote and buy elswhere for cheaper.

Thanks folks for the replies, I now have an idea of what to look for so it's me for the Dubai Apple store to see if they're any cheaper over here. Failing that I guess I could save the VAT and spend it again on the shipping and have a UK or USA outlet ship it out. Thanks again, expect more posts if I manage to buy one. Musn't tell the missus the real cost. WG
