Default Imac Intel + Sony HDR-SR1

hello, I was about to purchase the two pieces of equipment and i was was about to purchase the camera, sony style said it wasnt compatable with a mac,

and atthe mac store they said i couldnt edit in HD, because the format in the sony is avchd.

I would get final cut studio with the mac.

does anyone have any suggestions about how to get these to work together?
also does any software edit in hd? mainly avchd?

I am very eager to get started but again alot of money is being put out and wouldnt wanna get something i cant use.

It would appear that this issue isn't solely limited to MACs. The AVCHD format is relatively new and one backed by Sony (surprise, surprise). I wouldn't want to be a guineapig for such a new format, and would advise that you look at alternative camcorders; Sny has a bad track record of chosing proprietary formats which don't gain wide spread support.

For movie file conversion from Sony AVCHD format to MPEG-2 HDV and MPEG-2 DVD compatible formats you can use Elecard Converter Studio AVCHD Edition.
