If you had between 800 and 1200 dollars to put toward an editing computer what would you do?

I am looking to begin the production of an online t.v. show. Producing multiple episodes with a mini dv camera. I would like the maximum in picture quality output and input. A high quality dvd burner. Along with room to add things later if needed. (more memory etc..)

What would be best? A laptop or desktop for the dollar? It would be nice to travel with it, yet its not mandatory.

If anyone could help it would be appreciated. Thank you.
