Can anyone recommend something that fulfills the above requirements with an output that's easily edited on Vegas MS Platinum 8, and has integrated XLR inputs?

In Vegas MS Platinum 8, has anyone ever experienced this most annoying quirk. On one of our Platinum 8 equipment machines, when I click "Edit Generated Media", the interface opens then seems to vanish instantly at the bottom of the "dock", never to be found. I was demonstrating this for a class of 20 students this morning and could not edit any text beyond the default words "Sample Text". What is causing this interface to disappear? I suppose I could re-load the software, but was hoping not to have to do that.
