Just throwing this out there.... I've been asked to put together a 40 minute presentation, plus 20 mins Q&A overview of Editing in Resolve.(I have already warned them that whilst I'm reaqsonably proficient in Vegas, I'm still very much finding my way with Resolve) It will be a presentation over Zoom. The audience are already filmakers, experienced to varying degrees in other NLEs Although it may touch on colour/fusion/Fairlight, it is primarily to be about editing. It is an overview -...

I've not heard of Olive. It's always good to learn of new initiatives though. Worth keeping an eye on. Sorry I can't help.

TimStannard started a thread Cluedunnit II in Just for fun
As one or two people are still dropping in here, I thought I'd post a sequel to 2020's "Cluedunnit", which we made last year. Like the original ( see this thread ) it was conceived, filmed, edited and uploaded in 33 hours. We received the theme (in this case "In a pickle") at 9.00am on Saturday and had to have the film completed and uploaded by 6.00pm the following day. Some accused us of a lack of imagination by using the same characters, but as we had the same cast available, and the first...

I totally get that - I feel the same about Resolve/Vegas, but I wonder how much of this is down to familiarity. As I've said above, I'm not at all experienced with PP, but I sat in on an editing session with a friend who is very adept with it. Looking over his shoulder, my thought was he didn't seem to have a very high degree of control (ie exactly what you thought about Resolve) Yet the results were fine. Again I totally understand you. Once you are used to the simple concept of layers,...

Yeah, that's a bit of a killer. I know what you mean about interest waning as well. I still make a few films but they are not creative or for public consumption. I need to feel inspired, I still love analysing and discussing films though. Fortunately, I'm still asked to judge fairly frequently ... but anyone can do that. You, of course, reached the dizzy heights of a major IAC trophy so it's only downhill from there!

I think we need a video of this in action (and if you have time, a "how to")

+! for the recommendation of Resolve. However a slightly different experience here - I never got on with the layout and look of Premiere (although, admittedly i didn't try it for more than 30 days several yhears ago) but have no problem with Resolve! However it is quite resource hungry so make sure you PCV meets the specs.

Hello old friend! Season's Greetings to you I have made the move from Vegas to Resolve and it was a bit of a struggle for an old git like me. I think it was my third attempt to make the move. I simply forced myself by not installing Vegas on my PC. You might actually find it tougher than I did as Resolve is quite different to Vegas and it's often easier to change to something very different than get caught out by things that are nearly the same. I belive Resolve does allow you to configure...

Hi Tim! You've been floating about whilst I've been asking questions and helping me to compose my first vid. The help you and Midnight Blue have offered has been appreciated and I've given you a shout out in the credit roll. I've posted it up on the users vids .
    Cheers bud!

Hi, just wondered if I could ask you a question. What do you think it might come out like if I was to use wireless lappell mics when shooting scenes in a film, would it carry a similar effect as using a boom or is that a silly question. thanks. Mark

    Tim,
In Vegas MS Platinum 8, have you or anyone else experienced this most annoying quirk? On one of our Platinum 8 machines, when I click "Edit Generated Media", the interface opens then seems to vanish instantly at the bottom of the "dock", never to be found. I was demonstrating this for a class of 20 students this morning and could not edit any text beyond the default words "Sample Text". What is causing this interface to disappear? I suppose I could re-load the software, but was hoping not to have to do that.

What people think

by TimStannard on 01-30-2012 at 08:02 PM
Does it really matter what other people think of your work? I'd imagine all of us want our films to be liked, but it is highly unlikely that everyone watching will form the same, or even similar opinions. Even when a whole bunch of people express a very strong opinion, it's just as likely that there will be others expressing the opposite.

I was prompted to consider this after watching and then reading reviews of th BBC's adaptation of Sebastian Faulk's novel "Birdsong". Some
