Hi, everyone!

My name is Tim, I am from Wichita, KS, and I am a big time car guy. During the day, I'm a sales rep for a bearing company to pay for the horsepower, both under the hood, and in the case.

In the free time, I love shooting good vid of my car meets, and myself and my friends getting crazy in the cars. I've been into video editing for probably three or four years now, but never really found a good forum for it to get involved with. I actually didn't know quite how to list myself in the section of the profile about how good you think you are, I just knew I wasn't a newbie, and I sure as hell knew I wasn't a professional, LOL

My camera setup, probably by your standards, is a little on the chintzy side. I use a lot of MiniDV cameras that I buy off eBay for cheap, as a lot of them wind up on the outside of the car, and at a race, we have had a car swipe a come, and knock the camera off, and of course, ruin the camera. We pull the tape, and put it in another cheap camera, off we go. I'm actually getting to a point to where I can afford to buy better mounts, and what have you for this hobby, and I intend to do just that. Most of what I work with now has been built by hand by myself and my friends.

For the computer, I have a fairly new machine I built myself. Here's the specs on it:

AMD Athlon 64x2 6000 processor
4 GB RAM DDR2800
Twin 160 GB drives
MSI NX8800GTS 256MB graphics card

I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 as my video editing software.

Well, nice to introduce, and I'll be looking around the site for ideas I can pick up, and posting questions when I have them, which I will, and once again, nice to have found you guys.

Tim

Hi, I'm Leo, a 40 something trying to be a 20 something, worked in the display fireworks industry in Sydney in the late 80's, early 90's, jumped into the film industry in 94, my first film was The Power Ranger Movie, I still reside in the film industry but have become like
a living dinosaur, one of the few who enjoy a good ‘in camera’ effect.

Growing up in the late 60’s, 70’s being heavily influenced by TV shows like Thunderbirds,
UFO, Space1999 and Films like Rear Window, 2001 ASO, The Deer Hunter.

I stopped really enjoying mainstream TV and films once I started to work on them, I can’t watch a film without thinking of the processes at play, which are just off screen.

When I was 20 I bought my first video camera, so I have been tinkering with cameras, editing and making little videos for over 20 years, it only seems like 4 or 5 in my mind, I also obtained quite a few super 8 film cameras, and enjoy taking them out for a spin, to me that’s a great way to learn camera craft, and think of in camera edits.

Of late I have been stuffing around with youtube, trying to understand all the small wheels within big wheels which drives this giant, it’s a great place to post all the video dross no one looked at for well over 20 years. Youtube is a difficult beast to master.

Always eager to help others in any way or form, I believe good advice is very much lacking in today’s easy information world.
What did we do to find stuff out before the internet, or the term “google it” became the fix all of every problem in life.

Sorry for taking so long to introduce myself..never been good on anything internet.

Default Hello from the Frozen wasteland called Chicago

I'm 55, a manager of safety with the government, divorced, and very encouraged by finding this site!

I started out working with the original 3/4" reel to reel videotape in the 70's and have recently purchased the Vegas 9 Pro version. I'm disappointed in the meager manual that was packaged with the product and looking for any additional printed media that would help me get my soon-to-be retirement carrier on the right path.

Great to see such a vast spectrum of backgrounds and interests represented here, looking forward to learning from any and all.

Hi to all the newcomers, although I'm quite a newcomer myself.
It's always interesting to read at what stage people are at with their videography, and what equipment they use.
By coincidence my wife, who is a keen amateur videographer, is also looking at video editing software. She currently uses ULead (V9, I think) and has downloaded a trial version of Sony Vegas. She'll probably finish up buying it as she's pretty impressed by it.
I'm way behind everyone, including my wife, I'm only just getting into videography.
I'm a photojournalist by trade, in Skegness England, have only recently considered the moving image, that's how bad the situation is. I'm still researching professional video cameras, it's taking so long that I just bought a little Canon MD205, as something to get me started and also as something that I can carry around with me at all times, unllike a pro camcorder.
I'm also a freelance writer and have just started writing 'Civil Liberties Symphony', a romantic political thriller, on my `Really Creative Writing' website.
I'm writing it half with a view towards whether it would make a short film, in other words I'm considering whether the scenes would be very visual, but am not too concerned about this.
I've also ordered a new PC, my existing one is way out of date, five years old to be exact. I don't know if it will be ok for video editing, if not I won't have wasted my money as I need a new PC anyway. This is the spec, I bought it off EBay, but from a seller with a good rep: AMD QUAD 8.8Ghz PHENOM 9550 4GB/500GB & HD3200 1GB GFX.

Hi, I'm Matt. Cambridgeshire Uk. I've been making films since I was about 13, and more recently been involved in filming a lot of live productions/concerts/theater shows etc. And also working for an Independant company in the area who produce short fiction films for enter into festivals.
Just got a university offer from the International Film School Wales, In Newport, so I'll hopefully be there next year.
Any visitors to the IndyMogul network may have seen my propbuilding endeavours, which have earned me quite a bit of notoriety in those parts of the internet.. It's a blessing and a curse.. It means I get good exposure to the film community, but also a lot of emails asking for help and advice on building low-budget props.
That pretty much sums me up for now. Glad to be here and catch you all around the place..
