Well, I finished and passed all the tests and paid my £30 fee, so I'm now an Associate Member of the IOV. Now I need to go and shoot something that fits the criteria for the Master Member assessment. Gulp !
Thanks for everyones support.

Well done! Good luck with the Exam-piece.
I was thinking of sending Street Songs but I don't think it's good enough with all the dark bits. Has anyone got an idea at the sort of things the panel like. I know the criteria from reading it on the IOV website but was wondering if there is a particular thing they like videos about. Kittens, puppy's, nature, scantly clad women ?
Everybody likes scantily clad women! Kevin Cook & co particularly.
You've got to go for technical perfection. Aesthetics are down to opinion but shots which are too dark, or out of focus or wobbly, will never get you through. I would suggest that you shoot something specifically for the test or re-shoot the parts of "Street Songs" which are not technically perfect. Especially as "SS" is such a good video with great characters and a super, overall idea.
You must be your harshest critic, especially on the technical side.
One of the criteria of the test is "naturally recorded sound" so I can't use Street Songs. I do have an idea if I can find the right actors. It's just a simple little store about a shy young man who sees a pretty girl in a café. He thinks she is looking at him and at first he's embarrassed but because he finds her pretty, he starts to flirt with her.
Eventually it's time he went and as he walks past the girl, he sees she is in fact blind !
