Sony did something called superbit for a bit with bit rates of typically 8mbit, twice the normal for the average dvd. They dont do them anymore.

I was wondering if there is another ' hifi' brand of dvds???

I ask cos with my projector compression artifacts are really irritating on some of my dvfs - I specifically avoid single dvds with 14 hours of extras for that reason.

I got a superbit disc - black hawk down - bloody top. No ( almost ) somprssion artifacts and only a few instances of picture break up and none of those weird chunky lines that look almost like a clogged head.
