Default Cannot connect camera to computer(I am using a Firewire)

So, I am using a Sony DCR-TRV740 and I have a firewire card(startech) with two ports on it. I plug in the camera and it doesnt work. I try another cable and it still isn't detected. Computer says the firewire pci card is working fine. I connect to my friends computer with cable and camera and it works like a charm. Any ideas? Drivers? Bios?
I have a pretty new computer, I hope that's not the problem

2 gigs of ram
2 harddrives(master is 80 gig)(slave is 320 gig for video editing)
Gigabyte Mobo(k8 triton series GA-K8NS Pro)
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 zs
Radeon 9800 pro 128mb
AMD athlon 64 bit 3000+
....ideas?

Thanks a lot,
Mike

It sounds like you have done all the right things, testing and stuff.

Have you tried another device in your firewire card(a mates cam or scanner or something) windows will often tell you hardware is working, when it detects it and the driver loads, but until you see it in action you can never be 100% sure.

Also google this problem including the firewire card name, maybe a compatibility issue, but unlikely.

Default Firewire card

See a post I replyed to
(Problem capturing with firewire Sony hc 42e )
I found the cable that came with the card was at fault the pins were in a
slightly diferent position.
Not all firewie cables are the same.
