Default pc to dv camcorder with s-video

im totally new to this game so help would be great, ive got a dv camcorder with s-video connection and my pc has an s-video connection can i connect the two items with an s-video wire or do i need to get a firewire card?

If you have a DV camera, the best possible connection route (in terms of quality and ease of capture) is through a firewire connection. All Non Linear Editors such as Premiere Elements and Pinnacle Studio support DV capture and editing.

any free programs i can use to capture with s-video until i buy a firewire card?

Check to see if Windows Movie Maker is picking your camera up. I know it can be a wee awkward s**te at times to use but it's on your computer and it's also free. IMHO better interface than Virtual Dub.
