Default Pink screen

THE most important part of video editting is ofcourse your computers screen, now I have a 3 year old 19" dell crt screen which allways worked fine untill 2 weeks ago.. the problem I have is that the screen flickers now and then and the screen turns pink. I allready reset the screen to factory default and installed the latest drivers for my videocard but nope. My warranty has experied and those bloody dell technicians won't return any answer to my emails. Now I also plugged the screen onto another pc and same problem.

Has anybody experienced this problem and no, don't tell me that I have to buy a new one

Btw, I'm Belgian so hope you don't mind my bas English.

Yes.

It's likely to be one of two things:

- Loose/damaged video cable
- A "Dry Joint" on the circuit board (the solder has got too hot and melted a bit, leaving a weak connection)

Gently wiggle the cable around at both the PC and the monitor end. If it flickers then, it's *probably* the cable. If that doesn't appear to sort it, then (seriously) give the monitor a bit of a hard slap on the side. If that changes the display, it's probably a dry joint on the PCB.

Default fixed

I gave it a hard slap and now it doesn't work anymore... Just kidding , anyway, when I was writing this topic yesterday my screen hadn't flickered for a few hours and this morning it was still OK. So this moment I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I tried everything you said but nothing happened but I think you must be right about the dry joint, if the problem would come up again I will have it checked out.

Thanks Mike

Found it!

We have 2 pc's, an old one mainly used for internet by the children and mine, because we only have one monitor we often switch all cables, the monitor video cable has these small pins inside were one broke off. Ofcourse caused by switching the cable so often, guess that a local pc dealer can replace the plug.

Glad that I don't have to replace my monitor...
