Part of the HDV spec is the use of firewire for video transfer. The native MPEG streams used in HDV are actually the same data rate as DV, so there's no additional strain or size during capture of the streams (the higher definition is compensated by the higher compression rate).
If so, what hard drive can cope with the data and space? |
Given the above, the same hard drive that can cope with DV. Some HDV solutions capture to an intermediary codec for editing. In this case the data rate is higher as the MPEG streams interframe compression is no longer used to allow for easier editing. This being the case the files files are bigger and you'll put more stress on seek times. You'll still however be able to use a 7200RPM 8MB SATA or PATA drive with no problem.
