Default Newbie - Help please!

I am trying transfere a video from my JVC GR-DX 25 camcorder onto my computer, however, I keep getting the message: Unable To Detect A Device.
Same result with DVgate Plus and Windows Movie Maker software.

Is this a hardware problem?

Help much appreciated!

Mirx

Thanks for the reply guys. Little confused tho. The USB cable that I've used was included with camera. Can that really be the reason the computer would not detect the camcorder?

Can a Fireware cable be purchased separately?

Cheers

From the FAQ:

If you've got a miniDV camcorder, always ensure you capture using the firewire port on your PC. If you haven't got one, then I recommend you buy one as the USB connection on DV camcorders is not designed for high quality lossless DV transfer. Please note that this is applicable to miniDV camcorders.
