Default JVC mini DV not being recognised by windows 98SE

Hello

I have recently bought a JVC GR-DVL9700 Mini DV camcorder.

Everything works fine.

I have installed a firewire card and this was found by windows. But the camcorder once connected to the card is not being found by windows.

My spec is amd athlon 600mhz CPU, 500+ ram, windows 98 SE.

The guy I bought this from has been very helpful and assures me it all worked before he sold it to me and considering he is always e mailing me to see how I am getting on I believe him. Now is this a process of elimination. ie change the cable, then the card then upgrade to windows XP and then finally panic or is this a common problem.

I am stumped becuae i understood this waqs a pretty bog standard way to do things.

please help. Thanks. :(

What make of firewire card have you installed?

Did you have the camcorder connected to the firewire card when you installed the drivers?

In Windows 98SE it is extremely important that the camcorder is not connected tot he Firewire card when the drivers are initially installed. If your answer to the second question is yes, then you will have to delete all the drivers and start again.

Thanks for the help.

The card is just a generic PCI compliant card bought from ebay.

I have borrowed anoth ercable from a friend and nothing happened at first. Then I moved the cable connection at the camcordr DV out port around quite aggessively and windows detected the camcorder and loaded the drivers but as soon as I let go of the cable at the DV out port, windows stated that the device has been disconnected.

Without sounding stupid I now believe the DV out on my camcorder must be faulty? ANy way I can test this?

Difficult to say if the DV OUT is faulty. I assume that the DV OUT and the DV IN are one and the the same port? By sounds of it, looks like a dodgy cable to me rather than the port itself. Although I guess it is possibel that the port is faulty. I'm afraid the technical testing options are beyond my own knowledge. If you have access to another cable try that first.

Good luck
