I have to disagree, because it's extremely rare (I admit, not impossible) for both newer and older graphics cards (or even any components) to be incompatible with other hardware that is supposed to use the same technology. Other companies manage to make their graphics cards future proof by sticking to proper design guidelines, so why can't Matrox do it?
Having a miniscule compatibility list is no excuse in this day and age. Matrox are the Apple of graphics cards, ie, there are bigger manufacturers with a broader user base which have a compatibility list that's light years in advance of the competition, but because of the specialist nature of the cards, they have a fan base which can't really get that technology elsewhere. If Matrox had competition from any other manufacturer such as ATI or nVidia, they would be ripped out of the water faster than a dolphin in a tuna net.
You may have guesed that incompatible PC components (that supposedly use the same technology) annoy me
