Just took a delivery of a Canon FS200, currently using Premiere Elements 7 for editing.

The Camera is set to WIDESCREEN recording, however all imported recordings are showing as 4:3 files.

Even using the supplied transfer utility the video's are in 4:3.

Any Ideas?

are they tall and skinny? if so it's importing it with the wrong pixel ratio. i'm not sure how to change it but look around. i don't use elements very much

Yes they were all and skinny until I went looking for "pixel ratio", found the option on PE7 it was under "Interpret Footage" from this you can set it to PAL DV 16:9 widescreen, and the video then looks fine.

Not found a way to flag all imported video this way, so it looks like a manual procedure for each clip.

I have got just the same problem using Premiere Pro CS3!!!!
When i playback the clips in Windows Media Player they get the correct pixel aspect ratio, and report to be 768x576, and not 720x576 (PAL definition) as reported by Premiere.
I believe thats got to do with the codecs used.
In my case i'm using ffdshow to playback in WMP, but Premiere uses main concept mpeg.
If someone got any ideas ho to "force" Premiere to use other codec, i think it would solve it.

Nit familiar with this camera but I think your first response tells you where to start looking. See if there is a setting on the camera for exporting and that is set to 16:9

I'ts not a camera output issue, i believe, because only Adobe Premiere doesn't detects the correct pixel aspect ratio. If i manually correct it (using File>Intepret Footage) it looks just like in Windows Media Player.
I just would like a way to make it all automatic, without needing to waste some time. After Effects also detects it as a 4:3 and not a 16:9

I just looked up the cameras details on Canon UK but I couldnt actually see the file format that the camera records in. Have you examined the recordings with a utility like media info or similar to see what the file actually is?

How well does PE7 handle the files when its editing? and what project setting are you using when you start a project?
