| | Scratch disc After lots o' frustration, I'm buying a second hard disc to try and stop the stuttering when I edit on my (frequently defragged) single hard drive.
I know I should know the definite answer to this, but am I right in assuming that to get the best performance, I should have my scratch disc on the drive that does not contain my original video files?
(in other words, source files on one drive, scratch disk on the other?)
Also, which configuration would give the best performance:
1. Boot drive has source video files on and windows-based virtual memory, with premiere scratch disc set as my second HDD
2. Second drive has source video files on, boot drive has both windows virtual memory settings and premiere scratch disk on.
(I'm using a p4 1.7GHz with 512MB RAM) |

| | That "is" the scratch disc - I think it's just a term for "the disc with all the video files". |

| | But then there's also that old chestnut of people saying you should have your virtual memory on a seperate disc.
Between you and me, my drives are a complete mess. I have files scattered over 4 seperate drives, two are in a RAID array, they never get defraged and I;m always filling them up to the maximum. And you know what, I've never once had a problem with dropped frames etc.
I do everything you shouldn't. |
