I have a VCR. A Sony TRV33 and a 2.8GHz PC with Firewire.
I want to transfer VCR footage to my PC.
I was told that I could use the Sony as a go between to convert the analogue signals into digtal. So far all attempts have failed using the supplied (Sony output cable as the input to the camera).
Can anyone help please?

The Sony TRV33 is certainly capable of this. I have one myself but I've never attempted to use it for analogue bypass so can't confirm personally how easy or hard it is to do.

How have you connected things up? i.e. which leads are connected to which sockets and what mode do you have the camera in?

If I find time then I'll dig out the manual over the weekend and read up how to do this with that particular camera.

So far I have tried the following (Without sucess)!

Connect (Sony supplied Scart to phono adapter and lead) from Panasonic VCR (input/out) scart to the Yellow 3.5mm video/audio socket on TVR33 camera.

The camera was switched to VCR mode and Firewire cable connected from camera to PC. The camera detected the connection with (DV IN) on the blue screen.
(I would normally use this mode to record back on to tape from the edited video on the PC, so I know it works)
If it helps; I usually use Windows Movie Maker 2 for all my editing.

I remember reading a while ago about some bad leads supplied with a certain cameras. Something like an 'in' scart only is supplied instead of an 'in-out' scart lead.

Anyone remember if it was Sony?

You can test this by using another scart to phono lead.

It just might be a phono to scart lead supplied for transferring from camera to VCR rather than a scart to phono for the other way round.

If it was Sony then they were doing a freebie replacement if you asked them.

Test with a different lead first.

I now believe that the Sony supplied scart adapter is an
'in only'. This would explain why I just get a black screen. I will hunt for and alternative so that I can prove one way or the other.

Spot on, the supplied Sont Scart Adapter is pin IN only. Good news is that fully pinned SCART adapters are widely available in most electronic (and soem supermarket) stores. Alternatively if your VCR has and AV Out socket, then just hook up the red, white and yellow cables to your VCR and the mini-jack to your TRV33 and hey Presto ...

I will buy a suitable scart switched in/out plug block with phono outputs on which should do the trick.
