Default no firewire

My thoughts exactly...Next problem is that dvd is a slot not a tray, so don't think it will accept the 3'' dvd from the camcorder. Heard the quality of dvd camcorders are not so good. Any comment?

On the whole, they do tend to stick in a lower end CCD (the bit of the camera that captures the image - kinda) and charge a premium for the DVD bit of the name. Quality is generally worse for a DV cam of a similar price.

Not having much luck really are you?

Dont think a slot will support a 3" disc, in fact, we had someone bring a PC with a slot loading DVD drive into our workshop that had had a 3" CD installed in it. It got stuck and wrecked the drive.

Default DV camcorder usb

I bought a cheap £300 JCV DV camcorder the other day for work and this is easy to set-up on a PC via a supplied USB lead combined with the supplied Imagemixer 1.5 for simple capture etc.
However I bought a Sony dcr109 (£450 Amazon) for my own use (not at all sure its any better quality??) - this has very poor software and transfer to PC is a disapointment.
I am getting a Firewire card fitted to my machine plus Pinical 9+ to take care of the capture and edit process (I hope).
Like you I bought the (desktop) computer to work with camcorders but had an analogue camcorder at the time - mine did not have a Firewire. I bought from a local small dealer so he is fitting the Firewire card and making sure every thing works with new camcorder for min cost.
cheers Paul.

Default usb

Thanks for your reply. Let me know how you get on. I have a laptop and don't think I can change anything on it. Neither do I have a card slot to convert to firewire. The feeling I got was that the USB transfer was not such good quality as transfering it through firewire. The only solution given was to buy a dvd style camcorder that records in mpeg 2. This defeats the object as editing mpeg2 is too difficult.
