Question Canon XM2 - Microphone

I tried to insert an external microphone in the MIC. Terminal of my XM2 but when I do so, the sound goes dead (listening through my headphones).

Am I doing something wrong?

The manual states that one can add external microphones to the MIC. terminal. In fact I have purchased a wireless microphone but it does not work through the MIC. terminal.

this may sound silly but is your mic turned on and does it work? if possible try it in a different camera. does the camera have a volume setting (sometime called gain) on it and is it turn up?

The problem might be the mono jack. I am trying a stereo jack. The microphone is working perfectly - I tested it.

what type of mic is it?

if it needs phantom power (usually and internal battery) then that will likely be your problem.
