Default camcorder microphone doesn;t work

hello, first of all i have a Sony DCR-TRV900 Camcorder, specs here SonyStyle.com | Digital Video Handycam Camcorder, DCR-TRV900

and the microphone on it doesn't work , niether does the i-link interface, so i want to get an add on mic, here SonyStyle.com | REFURBISHED - ECM-MSD1 High Grade Stereo Microphone

but it says this "Please note that select models cannot use the Intelligent Accessory Shoe function on the camcorder while microphone is in use."

does that mean it wont clamp on to the add on mic holder on the camcorder ? someone please help or point me to a mic that will fit on to my camcorder.
