Default DVD Camcorder problems

Hi , I have a Canon DC100 DVD Camcorder. When i put the disk into the PC it shows as 1 long file.
Does anyone know how to split this up into diffrent chapters so the i can pick which ones to put onto a disk?
Taling with an assistant in a camera shop, he tells me DVD camcorders were not really designed for editing.
Is this right, can the disk i have not be split up?
I would appreciate any advice.
Cheers
