is there a way to transfer vhs tapes to my mac using my zr50 to pass the video through? if so what cables to i need and what imput do i use on my camcorder?

I take it your camcorder and Mac have Firewire sockets? Connect the camcorder to the Mac using a Firewire cable and if your camcorder has analogue video sockets (composite or S-video) then connect these up to the same socket on the VCR. I presume that make of camcorder doesn't have audio line in so run the audio from the VCR into your soundcard on the computer and hope that the pictures and sound will match up when played back.
