So my stepdad recorded a whole project because he is teaching a 3rd grade class on Airplanes (he is a pilot, teaching his sister's class).... The problem is, the video camera he used was an older one (VHS-C i think).... no firewire or anything basically. So this is where my question comes in. I figured i could put the VHS-C tape into one of the tape adatpers and play it in my VCR, and transfer it to my computer somehow, but now i dont know how to capture the video and what not. Please help me! is there some sort of program i need to transfer the video from my VCR to my computer? And id only need a 3 prong (red white and yellow) to 3 prong, right? Please help me soon!

1) tv card vid in + sound card vid in
2) grapgics card vid in + sound card vid in
3) dedicated converter
4) input to dv cam, then to pc via firewire

I too am a beginner at this video lark. I bought an AverMedia EZmaker pci capture card. (about £40) This accepts input from a VHS recorder with sound going to line in on the sound card/motherboard. Capture was easy and acceptable in either mpg1 or mpg2. I dare say experienced videoers will say it's not the best but as a starter I am quite happy. :P

I can back you up there. It is easy to set up and go.
Just in case you didn't know, there is an update for the software that comes with it, should you be using it as it came out of the box (if it's the dvd one).
Have a search on google for neo software or whatever it's called. I can't remember off the top of my head. If you have no luck I might still have the patch on my other computer.
