Default Dvd Recording From Tv

Hi,
Can anybody help!!! I am a sports coach who would like to record and edit sports fixtures from the T.V. including Sky. Can I use a normal DVD recorder, load the DVD onto a computer and then edit it.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

PAUL
