Hi all,

A friend of mine is buying a standalone dvd recorder - philips dvd r70 and im wondering if it records in mpeg 2 on dvd rw which could then be transferred to pc for editing ?

Any one had any experience of these or similar units ?

Cheers

I seem to remember someone using video recorded from a standalone DVDRW in a thread...

...in fact it was dvd r70! http://www.videoeditingforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=101

Thanks Marc,

The bit that worries me is how well the unit will convert from vhs tapes, remember my problems with several devices.

The reason I asked is someone told me recently that the standalone units will do a better job of converting vhs than a top quality pc card, im still none the wiser.

Cheers

You could try recording to MiniDV tapes with the DVin on your camcorder... (then transferring to PC using firewire)
