| | problem with Canon MVX 350i...... 4 days out of warranty and Canon don't want to know.
The camcorder will playback OK but won't record either on tape or card.
All I get is the boot up blue Canon screen, no more.
Switching it off doesn't work when on record, I have to pull the battery out.
Any ideas or any recommended repair places ?
Cheers

| | Have you or one of the kids dropped it? to make it like this, for if you have you could claim on your home insurance. As for repair places where do you live?

| | It's been impeccably kept in a Lowepro bag.
If I can find a decent repairer I'll send it off for a quote and see what they say. |

| | What do you mean by 'Canon don't want to know'? Surely they will agree to repair one of their own camcorders but obviously you will have to pay for it as the warranty is up. Are you getting no 'live feed' on the viewfinder or LCD through the lens? Are there any sounds coming from the camcorder such as clicking, banging or grinding? Can you get the menus to appear on the LCD screen or viewfinder? Are you sure the camcorder isn't in DV-In mode as I notice you have a 350i model?

| | There is nothing on the camera setting other than the blue Canon screen, no sounds, no buttons work. no nothing.
It doesn't switch off, the only way is to take the battery off.
Playback is entirely normal.
It was the supplier that said that the warranty was up, end of story.
I've emailed Canon and am awaiting a response, I'll let you know what they say.
How would you feel about paying for a repair with the warranty 4 days up ?
Most annoying is that I was away in Scotland and incommunicable at the time it conked and was then still in warranty.
One minute it was working, the next minute it didn't.
Fed up

| | Only give Canon a few days to respond to your email - large companies have a strange way of forgetting about you and can fob you off with excuses like what I experienced with HP (this is still an ongoing problem with me), who were utterly useless - and then phone them and basically keep on at them for a quote for how much it will take to repair. If it is going to work out as almost as expensive as buying a new camcorder then maybe that might be a better idea.
