I have an MG21 camera that came with the Cyberlink software which I have had no problems with editing and burning DVDs. Power DVD is the player for MOD files.
I am willing to be corrected but I think PowerDirector does not change the files to AVI format, it just allows you to edit the individual files and then PowerProducer converts the files suitable for burnig a DVD.
The copy of PowerDirector that comes with the camera is a cut down version, to give you a taste of what the full version will do.
I downloaded a trial copy of PowerDirector 5 and found that I could not hear the audio on the clips although it was definitely there, I had previously edited and burnt a DVD using PowerDirector Express SE
I have been emailng Cyberlink for the last 10 days trying to find out which of their versions of PowerDirector will edit the ac3 Dolby Digital audio files produced by the Everio range of cameras. There have either been grammar or language problems in customer care or they have been cagey. I finally found out on another forum that PowerDirector 6 and deluxe will edit the files.

You will need to purchase some editing software.
The files on the Everio range of cameras use the MOD file extrension and the software that can edit these files is limited. Cyberlink PowerDirector can, but I am not sure if the edited files can be played on Quicktime. If you also purchase PowerProducer you can then burn the edited files to DVD.

Harodez.
I would suggest you download a trial copy of PowerDirector6 and then buy a Full version.
I don't think there is any free software available to edit the MPEG2 .MOD files. There are apps to convert the .MOD extension to .mpg extension. You may then be able to find some other software to edit the files.

Hi Everyone
I have just joined this forum as I really need some help I am about to throw my jvc GZ-MG21E out of the window.
I purchased this kind of camcorder as the guy in the shop said it was really easy to use. yes I agree to a point I am not an experienced camcorder. My family went to Disney in florida in Aug and I took approx 6 hours of film, great no probs So far. I have spent the last 2 months trying to down load this footage onto my computer so I may burn a disk and clear the hard disk on camcorder so I can start filming again. I have installed the software cyberlink etc and have tried every which way but no footage transfers on to the computer I am using powerproducer I get to the capture part but that is it nothing else happens. please can you tell me what I am doing wrong. I have a cannon digital camera and have no problem understanding computers and manuals but for the life of me cannot understand this. I would be most grateful if you could give me some hints
best regards

You should download the .MOD files into PowerDirector, drag them down to the timeline, Edit them if you wish and then Burn them to disk if you want a DVD.
I don't think there is any software for burning .MOD files direct to disc, PowerDirector converts the file extension to a .PDS file extension for passing to PowerProducer to burn discs.
