Default Any tips for Removing too much whiteness from a video

Just finished shooting a wedding day. Went to play it back the next day and all outdoor shots, some indoor, are very bright, and very white in certain parts of the screen. It was a very sunny day, which i guess didnt help. Can anyone help or give advice on how to reduce this whiteness. I have ulead videostudio 9 software.
I have attached a screen print to give you an idea of the problem.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Adjusting the gamma might make some improvement, but the white areas are going to stay white no matter what.

Here is what a gamma adjustment does to your example pic-

As far as I know the detail is lost in the white parts, and regardless of how much you 'darken' the rest of the image, those white highlights will remain. Unlike an underexposed scene that is too dark, the detail isn't lost and therefore can be recovered.
