Thread: How can I make an avi/mpeg of the PC screen?

Right. Say I am recording a 'using windows' tutorial and want to mix video from my DV and video captured directly from the PC, as in me demonstrating how to do something.

How can I make an avi/mpeg of the PC screen?

Up to now I have had to use screen captures taken with Paint Shop Pro...but obviously those are just image files not video.

Another question is, will the supposed utility also capture video happening on the same screen at the same time? And a screensaver?

I believe you can use Windows Media Encoder for screen capture.

There's a clever little program called Camtasia that will do this. And you can download a trial version from techsmith.com. There's an option to "smooth" the action, and I recommend you use this. I've used it a few times, it works really well. Premiere will display the avis with no problem, but for some reason Pinnacle Studio8 will not. Hope this is helpful.
