Default Dropped Frames/ Choppy Video HELP

I have a Canon DV. I have been trying like heck to edit video. Things went well for a little while. I was using ArcSoft. I was able to edit. Looked not to bad. As I captured more video the computer said, running out of virtual memory. The computer then crashed. I have had trouble ever since. Ever since I have had choppy video.

I bought a new harddrive to load the video onto. I added more RAM. (Although not a lot) I have monitored various boards in search of answers and have made various changes to the system. I have tried different programs. Window Movie Maker and Pinnacle. Pinnacle tells me I am dropping frames at an amazing rate.

I am just a neophyte. So I apoligize for my stupidity. I ran Sandra and here is a portion of the report:

I would GREATLY appreciate any suggestions anyone has. But, please respond so an idiot like me can understand. Thanks. (There is plenty more Sandra report, but I hate to bore you even more)
