Default What codec should I use?

Hello,

I have tried many codecs. But I can't find any good codec that can compress 2 hours video into 700mb with good quality. Is there one?

Thanks

How about DivX?

www.divx.com/download/

or alternatively, XviD or MS Mpeg-4, they're basically the same technology.

I think you're wrong. Play around with the bitrate and resolution settings, as well as n-pass encoding, and notice the differences.

The number of paces in which encoding is performed (a.k.a. how many times is the material processed. The more, the better the quality.)

wmv is good too, less artifacts than divx but a bit softer to my eyes.

I tried DivX Pro 6.1 or something with video bit rate 6000 and 720x576 and the result was small but AWFUL!!!!!! I ALMOST VOMIT!!!

The WMV, Windows Media Video?, was QUITE good but I tried to open wmv in adobe premiere and the preview window was bugging, so it looks like that adobe can not handle wmvs in preview window -> so the wmv is bad too...

Any other codecs?

These types of codecs are for the final delivery. If you want to edit video it should be in as lossless a format as you can. Why are you trying to put very heavy compression on video and then edit it. That's not really the right way to do it.

Okay. I understood. I am making own Star Wars movie. The movie is now about 30-35 minutes long and it has comlicated and funny script. So, what codec should I use when we have the movie finished?

BTW: If I can open very compressed film, why adobe premierer can't??
