Default Simple editing tools and converters

I need a simple editor to cut out sections of videos and combine diffrent ones together and i need it to be free becuase im in the 9th grade and cant realy pay for one

and i need a free again converter to convert divx,avi and wmv to mpg or wmv

o and is mpg the same as mpeg i have a bet on it that it is

XP has a bsaic editor built in. Virtual dub along with windows media encoder should sort the rest. Both free.

Mpg and mpeg are the same thing.

guess i sould of told you that i dont have XP sorry about that and to add on about the edit or all i need to do it take out the start and end of clips then put them all together

also dose virtualdub convert files to avi because i didnt find it if it dose and that sucks about it not editing WMV

Virtualdub has always been an avi editor/converter, there is an Mpg version out there now and the latest version (1.6 I think) will even give you DV capture from firewire.
