Default Resolution problems frame-capturing from tape

Hi,

I've been hired to do some video work for a local business, and have run into a problem.
I've been provided with a Hi8 videotape and asked to take individual frames and convert them to JPEG format. The only way I know how to do this is by dubbing the Hi8 tape to my MiniDV camcorder (a Canon ZR70) via S-Video cable and then capturing the footage to my Macintosh computer with Final Cut Express 2. I then select the frames I want in Final Cut, then save them as 720 x 480 pixel JPEG images. The problem is that when I view the JPEG images, they appear quite pixelated. My employers want to enlarge the images to be printed on 8-1/2 by 11 inch paper, so the pixelation presents a large problem. I haven't found any way to fix it by myself, so I thought someone here might be able to help.

Thanks,
Michael

To enlarge to that degree would pose a little bit of a problem I think. Going from 720x576 pixels to the size they want will inevitably mean you trade off some clarity.

It shouldn't be too bad though. Care to post an example of the results so far?

I thought so too, but I think you'll see the problem in the full-size image:

In case this makes any difference, as I'm in Canada, I'm working with NTSC equipment.

Thanks,
