0 Videos nominated Video Of the Month(s): 0 | | How to capture & edit MPEG 4
I have a PC I built running XP(Home) and a Panasonic NV-DS 150 camcorder. I use Pinnacle Studio 9 to edit and being a beginner am thrilled with the results. I also have a Casio stills camera which records video in MPEG 4 and has a USB output. How can I capture this and edit it with Studio 9? Studio gives me no capture options other than a DV camcorder. Any help would be much appreciated.

Richard:
If what Marc has so kindly put together does not work out for you for some reason, you can hold off till November 1st. Looks like Pinnacle will be releasing Version 10 and it has all the options you are needing to edit. Just a heads up. You will need to upgrade to what looks like Version 10 Studio Media Suite. Price for upgrade Stateside is $ 79 for Pre-Orders.

Richard:
Here is what Version 10 MediaSuite will include from thier website.
The Studio MediaSuite version 10 upgrade combines all the benefits of Studio Plus version 10 with a host of connected applications that go beyond video to help you better enhance and manage audio and still images. Integrated applications include JASC PaintShop Photo Album (a $29.99 value), Steinberg Wavelab Lite and Pinnacle Instant Burning Applications. In addition, the Advanced Codec Pack (a $9.99 value), which includes codecs for DivX, Dolby Digital 5.1 channel audio, MP3 and MPEG-4, will be pre-enabled inside your Studio Plus upgrade. That's a total of $39.98 in retail value plus WaveLab Lite and Instant Burning Applications...all for only $20 more!

Sccoter
I may be reading this wrong, but doesn't that quote suggest they are bundling the codec rather than enabling native MPEG4 editing?

Marc:
The more I read this the more I think you are right.
Codec it is and nothing more.
Richard, I definately do not want to mislead anyone so I am sorry if my information is not the way I thought it was. Best bet would be to probably just drop Pinnacle an e-mail message to ask. :(

Marc
Many thanks for all your and others help. Have since found a very long way round but it does end up with Studio 9 doing the editing!
Heres what I do:
Firstly, Windows downloads the files to my HDD;
Then I use Movie Maker to capture the files and lay them out on the storyboard just as they come off the camera;
I then output them as a Movie Maker movie to my DV camcorder where they then become digital;
Studio 9 then captures the scenes from the camcorder and they are digital and can be edited by Studio 9.
A long way round but at least I get there!!! And anyway, I get a lot of pleasure using the PC.
Am thinking of buying a new camcorder. But I film only steam-locomotives and my other hobby - organs in poorly lit churches where a 3CCD job won't be much good. A budget of about £1000+- so am really having a hard time to find something suitable.
Regards and many thanks. Richard.[/u]
