Default Sony HC19E - poor transfer quality

Hi - I'm a newbie to this site - so i apologies now!

Ichecked through the forum for an answer - but havnt been sucessfull - so i hope someone can help.

Last week i purchased the sony DCR HC19e after reading excellent reviews abouts it "broadcast-like" quality. I also purchased a firewire lead too as i heard this make an impact.

Its true - you do get the "broadcast-like" quality when played through the TV - but when i transfer onto the pc its more like a webcam quality. I have tried a few differnt editing software - the best one i have is Ulead VS9. Now i know for the price it wont be like somthing off BBC - but surely it should not be as poor a quality - am i doing something wrong?

My PC meets the spec required Intel Celron 2gHz 80g h/drive and 1gb of DDRam.

Any advice would truley be greatly recieved.

Thanks for reading

Broadcast quality. You gotta love some reviews.

Are you using FIREWIRE?

Then you should be seeing an identical copy. Does your capture programme report dropped frames?

No - nothing dropped. Just a very grainy picture. It seems really odd. Ive checked all the settings. Is there a better software package you would recomend?

Technically you're getting an identical copy. It won't really matter what software you use except for the DV codec it uses.

Are you sure you're using the firewire cable and capturing in DV? How big are the file sizes and what are the video lengths?
