Default Copying from DVR satellite box to PC

Does anyone know if it is possible to copy recorded programs from a DVR satellite box to your PC.? The box has a farily lager hard drive and I have recorded a number of programs I would like to burn to dvds.

The manual explains how to copy these programs to a VCR but the problem here is that you loose the digital quality.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I don't think it's possible. For years now the movie industry has put pressure on anyone making a digital interface that has the bandwidth for HDTV to include Digital Rights Management into the interface electronics. Firewire has this for sure.

USB-2 doesn't, but if the device storing the video has DV or DVD licensing, it's not allowed to carry the video as a term of the license.

I'm pretty sure the DVR satellite box has similar restrictions.

I've always thought the term "digital" a complete misnomer. The consumer's been told digital = better quality, but in reality that ain't true; compare some goddam awful DVB signals with the lovely analogue one.

Anyway, rant over. Easiest way to archive to DVD is to get yourself a set-top DVD recorder.

would be interesting to know the format that teh sky box ( and others ) record in ??

All the boxes just have a hard drive, you can take it out and plug it into your pc using a USB2 converter.

Never tried it, but it must be possible and im sure someone somewhere has be able to copy the films ?
