Default just need a quick answer

using pinnacle studio 9.4.3 SE, which format would be better to capture video in: mpg (high quality, dvd) or avi (best)???? thanx

AVI because it's uncompressed, therefore no or little loss of quality. It will take up more space though.

The term "AVI" is really a generic term used to describe the container of a Windows video file. The extension AVI can mean the video is encoded with any manor of codec: from highly compressed MPEG4 codecs such as DivX, to the low compression of DV.

Make sure you choose a codec with a low compression ratio.

well I'n knew to all of this. Just trying to capture a friends wedding vid from a sony high-8 camcorder, so I want the best setting as possible.......without any audio syncing problems

I would just go for the 'best' setting on Pinnacle capture then, as that seems to give the best quality when you're not using a dv tape. I think that the best setting uses no compression or, at the most, very low compression.
