Unable to import avi in Premier

Hi guy, I've followed the instructions for ripping a dvd ie vts files using virtualdub, but when i try to import the avi file in premier a box just appears saying importing files but nothing is happening. I left it running overnight but still nothing. it's only about 2gig in size.

any ideas.?
