Default Picture & sound going out of synch

My PC is brand-new - bought specifically to run video editing software.
It consists of:
AMD Athlon 64 processor 3500+
Microsoft Windows XP Pro
NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra 939 pin motherboard
1Gb dual channel DDR RAM 400MHz (2x512Mb)
Twin 200Gb SATA 7200rpm Hard Drives with 8Mb Cache
256Mb DDR3 ATI Radeon X800 PCI-Express graphics
DVD-ROM (16x) / CD-RW (52x32x52) drive
Multi Format Dual Layer DVD-RW (16x) / CD-RW (48x) drive
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS including 1394 Firewire

I recently bought Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.5, and have been unable to produce a video where the picture and sound are in synch. Everything is fine up to the rendering stage. But then - regardless of the output option I choose (MPEG-2, DV-AVI etc) - the result is always out of synch.

I've exchanged a number of e-mails with Roxio Technical Support, and - as a result - have defragged the hard drives, switched off the start up routines in MSCONFIG, updated the sound & video drivers and minimised Hardware Acceleration.

None of this has had the slightest effect on the picture & sound - they remain as out of synch as ever.

Can you see what is wrong, please? Is it my PC set-up? Would another software package be more suitable? If so, which one?

Your PC setup is more than adequate.

The only helpful thing I can think of is to try another editing package. This way, you'll know if the problem is exclusive to the Roxio app.

Think I'm right in saying Premiere Elements is available as a trial download. Also, just a thought - are you storing your video clips on the same drive you export to? You know this is not recommended?

(Standard question also: how full are your drives, and are they defragged?)

Thanks for the reply - I'll give Adobe Premiere Elements a try.

The drives are all but empty - AND defragged.
